Research

SIU Carbondale is a Carnegie-classified doctoral research university, attracting students from all 50 states and approximately 100 countries. In our Computer Science degree program with doctoral granting privileges, research is at our very core. At SIU Computer Science, our commitment to advancing technology is evident in our diverse research portfolio. Our faculty and students lead groundbreaking research in Cyber Security and Privacy, developing safer and more secure digital infrastructures. Our work in Data Science and AI leverages data, modeling, and intelligent algorithms to drive automation, prediction, and understanding across various domains. We delve into Systems and Networking, exploring optimized, resilient, and scalable solutions for the digital age. Our focus on Cyber-Physical Systems and IoT promises innovation in connecting and enhancing everyday devices. Additionally, we elevate computational processes through High-Performance Computing research, enabling faster, more efficient, and complex simulations. Our expertise in Data Mining and Big Data Analytics allows us to extract meaningful insights from vast datasets.

NSF approved the NSF IUCRC for Intelligent, Distributed Embedded Applications and Systems (IDEAS) in March 2023. The participating Universities include Arizona State University, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and University of Southern California.
